I Am Cecily (Poem)
Originally composed in 2008. (I was 18.)
I may have been maimed by actions
And stabbed by words
But I will not reward malevolence satisfaction that it does not deserve
Undeniably resilient
Like the Phoenix, I rise
I execute my brilliance
No longer letting tears stream from my eyes
Dreary shrills may have invaded my ears
As unveiled before me stretched bloodsoaked concrete
But I am NOT like the bulk of my peers
My environment does not define me
I will work until I bleed
Won’t rest ’til I succeed
I may stumble, but I will always race back to the lead
Never will I ever be constricted by threads in my fabric that I cannot unweave
I SOAR ABOVE
Reaching for my destiny
I am triumph, I am strength, I am love…
I AM CECILY!
