Answer: Medgar Evers. Evers, who was a member of the NAACP, played a crucial role in fighting against segregation and the mistreatment of Blacks in his homestate of Mississippi until he was assassinated by a member of the White Citizens’ Council, a White supremacist group, in June 1963.
