Hustler of the Month: Tahir Register, Multi-talented Entertainer & CEO of TheBlackMedia.org
Why do you think people appreciate The Black Media?
I think people appreciate The BLACK Media because they appreciate me, a Black man who, instead of becoming a teacher straight out of college, decided to sacrifice a comfy life to live his dream. They appreciate when I open up to them and tell them the real; they know who’s writing the articles and they love the fact that I do it all by myself. The graphic design, articles, thumbnails, imaging, links, deals, ad placements, headlines, video editing, photographs, retouching, marketing, promotion, advertising—I do it all alone! They love that, and it keeps them inspired that if one man can do all this, the least they could do is stick to their word. And if they want positivity, share the positive things I’m doing. Read it, engage in it, and many do.
If you could choose any celebrity in the world, who would be your dream interview? What would you talk about?
My dream interview would be with…oh my gosh, there are so many. But Oprah or Janet! I’d say Janet Jackson, only because there’s so much I’d ask her. Michael and Janet have shaped my life in more ways than one, so that interview would be easier because I know Janet’s career and could ask the questions millions have always wanted to know.
With Oprah I’d be more spiritual than anything, so Janet would be the dream. I would convince her, beforehand, to open up and answer all questions. Then we’d take it back to the Dream Street album and travel through time up until the current divorce and weight loss, ending on a super positive note, making it one of the most revealing interviews of Janet Jackson’s entire career…oh my! I’m excited!
You’re also a photographer, graphic artist and a singer. Have your other talents helped you become a better journalist?
I am! Bless you! I don’t often hear people list my accomplishments and talents, so it’s a pleasure hearing that. But yes, my talents, education, and expertise in my fields have helped me tremendously because I don’t have to depend on anyone! If I needed to shoot the cover of The BLACK Media, like I did this year, I can do it. No need to pay or wait for a photographer, or a graphic designer, or a re-toucher—I can do it all. As a singer and musician with over 10 years of education in the field, when I write on music, I know exactly what I’m writing about and listening to. I know the entertainment business through and through because I’ve experienced it, and continue to experience it. So when I write about others, I have a compassion towards their experience, but I also a have professional opinion versus a basic one or common one.
Do you plan to explore your other talents more in the future, or is The Black Media your main priority?
The BLACK Media hasn’t, and never will be, my main focus. While running The BLACK Media, I’ve released an EP called Black Canvas and I’ve acted in music videos; one with Faith Evans and Missy Elliott, and another with Grammy-nominated Gospel singer Jonathan McReynolds. I’m always auditioning and sending out for roles, and as a photographer, I’m finding and shooting clients constantly. I’d be dead broke if I only focused on The BLACK Media. Ha! I’m half dead broke because of all the other things I do, but hopefully one day, one of those things will pull me up from this and I’ll be stable. I do plan to release new music at the top of 2018, so be on the look out for that. I just released a cover of “Heaven” by Jamie Foxx at TahirRegister.com/music

How do you juggle your business with your personal life? Do you have a team to help out, or are you doing this on your own?
My business is my personal life, and unlike most, I’m okay with that. I was born to not have interest in typical fun—never have, never will. My parents were sooooooo lucky sending me to college because I’ve always been a boring child—practicing, creating, all day long; having no interest in amusement parks, clubs, parties, anything normal kids would do. I’ve never even been to Six Flags! True story! There is no team, there’s only me. And sometimes, I wish that were different because I’m super tired all the time—exhausted and stressed—but God provides.
What’s in the future for Tahir Register? What can we expect from you in 2018 and beyond?
In 2018, you can expect new music. I’m going to make 100k that year. I’ll be starring in a new hit series on Netflix, I’ll move out of my mom’s house and open my loft studio in Atlanta. TheBLACKMedia.org will reach an average of 1 million views per month, and I’ll be signing artist (all kinds) to my company The BLACK Media, LLC … oh, and finally paying back my student loans.
